As a student in Athabasca University's School of Computing and Information Systems Programs, you will tap into the knowledge and experience of faculty members who are dedicated to creating online courses that bring relevant and up-to-date computing and information systems education to the student in highly flexible and convenient ways. Students and academics work together to share ideas and learn both individually and collaboratively. Our faculty's wide range of academic and research expertise continuously drives the development of new curriculum and ensures that your experience is both highly relevant and engaging.
SCIS offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in online mode:
- 1-year University Certificate in Computing and Information Systems
- 4-year Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems (B.Sc. CIS)
- 4-year Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems Post-Diploma program (B.Sc. CIS (PD))
- Master of Science (specialization in Information Systems) (MSc IS)
These programs offer you the opportunity to learn in a flexible way as well as, the skills to be competitive in the demanding and ever-changing field of Information Technology. Our graduates are self-motivated, analytical thinkers who possess a vast knowledge in IT and the skills to enrich any team. Announcements
COMP494 - Research Methods is a new course designed to introduce research—the systematic investigation that attempts to establish facts on a scientific basis.
COMP266 - Introduction to Web Programming is a newly revised course in programming using JavaScript, together with some HTML and CSS. It follows a problem-based approach which requires you to design and create a website of ever-increasing sophistication as the course progresses while creating design documentation, reflecting on the process, and (optionally) sharing and communicating with others on the course.
COMP314 - Operating Systems is a newly revised course that introduces the fundamental concepts, principles, and structures of operating systems. An operating system is the software on a computer that orchestrates the hardware components of the computer.
COMP361 - Systems Analysis and Design is a newly revised course that deals with the concepts, skills, methodologies, techniques, tools, and perspectives essential for systems analysts. The practical component of COMP 361 is object-oriented and is case driven, making it possible for students to go through the steps of system analysis and design to solve a real life business problem.
