The MSDN Academic Alliance Software Center for SCIS Staff and Students
The MSDN Academic Alliance Software Center offers a group of Microsoft products that are available free-of-charge to SCIS faculty and students at Athabasca University.
Steps:
- Contact the SCIS technical team to obtain a login to the MSDN site. Please specify the course you are
in.
- Once the login has been created, you will receive it by email. The link to access the site will also be included in that email.
- Once you have logged in, select the 'Software' tab. There is a group of products shown there. (Note
that you can also select other products from the drop-down list).
- Add your selections to your cart (it's free), then download the file(s) to a temporary folder on your computer.
- The result is an ISO image file(s), that you will either need to burn onto a DVD or CD. (This is not the same as copying a data file to CD. You will need to be able
select 'Burn an Image' from your software . If you do not have that option, there are freeware applications such as InfraRecorder,
Active@ ISOBurner or Free Easy CD DVD
Burner, which are easy to install and use. If you wish to have step-by-step instructions refer to these instructions for 'Free Easy CD DVD Burner': Burn an ISO Image File to a CD or DVD.) Some of ISO image file for example Access 2007 can also be extracted with WinRAR.
- Once you have done this, you will be able to install your application like any other installation file from CD or DVD.
- You will be prompted for the registration key during the install. The instructions for obtaining the registration key for the product will be emailed to you, after
you have selected and downloaded the product files.
- Important: You must adhere to the terms of the Student Use
Agreement. (There is no requirement to sign and return this
agreement.)
- If you have any problems or questions,
contact the SCIS technical team. Note that support for individual
applications is very limited.
